Boat Shoe Knot Flip Book
Often used on boat shoes (deck shoes) or moccasins with leather laces, the “Heaving Line Knot” creates decorative
coils instead of knots. Each end is simply coiled around itself until all remaining lace is consumed.

Fold right (yellow) end into a “loop”.

Wrap right (yellow) end around itself.

Continue wrapping tightly around.
4
Completed shoelace “coil”.
5
Feed loose end through top of loop.

Pull “coil” upwards to lock end

Repeat using left (blue) end.
Finished Knot Gallery
The finished Boat Shoe Knot should be two tight “coils”, each dangling freely at the end of a short length of
shoelace.
Second photo using two shoelaces, then ends shortened with Boat Shoe Knots.
The ends are finished with decorative Boat Shoe Knots.
