Ian's Rant 02 – The Millennium Bug

Y2K = Year 2000

Ian points out the short-sightedness of the "Y2K" (Year 2000) solution.

Year 2000 = Y2K

Trust the computer industry and/or the media to shorten the phrase: "Year 2000" to the cryptic acronym: "Y2K". To quote another commentator:

"It was this kind of thinking that caused the problem in the first place".

Besides, the solution of using 4 digits for the date will only cause a similar problem 8000 years from now when the year 9999 rolls over to 10000 and requires 5 digits!
